I thought I'd share some pictures of the area around where I am planning on hunting next month. At this time I don't have anything more specific, but after I return from the woods I will.... until then, enjoy these!

Awesome pics . . . Maine topography is VERY different. When does you season begin?
Generally speaking, elk season begins at the last day of August. Thats archery, and there are exceptions to the opening date and the choice of weapons. The elk rut peaks about 2/3rds the way through September. I run past a 5X6 bull 2-3 times a week and he has shed his velvet, however the bucks around here have not... I'd like to see some pictures of the Maine woods. One of my dreams is to come over there and go moose hunting. Someday!

Maine woods are mixed with no mountains like in your pictures. HIghest peak is 5,267 ft. Northern part of the state (location of the good moose hunting) is very flat. Typically you would be hunting woods roads and clear cuts as spruce growth typically makes it impossible for walking and spotting.
I got picked a few years ago after applying for 10 years. You should start applying as you build up additional points every year.
I don't know where I would start out there! Most of our good bow areas have extreme cover changes, like, a 10 acre corn field inbetween a forested swamp and a subdivision.
On the built up east coast, that's bow hunting gold!
